I am a biogeochemist and ecologist interested in the effects of land use and pollution on the ecosystem. My work focuses on aquatic systems and tries to answer the question how are we changing the chemistry of the earth? I want to understand how changes in chemical regimes affect the biological organisms in an ecosystem and vice-versa. I want to apply this work toward better protection of the environment through informed management.
I am currently pursuing a PhD at Duke University where I am co-advised by Dr. Emily Bernhardt and Dr. Justin Wright. My research focuses on saltwater intrusion in the coastal plain of North Carolina. I am interested in how salt impacts biogeochemical processes such as the export of nutrients to coastal waters. I am also studying the impact of salt stress on coastal flora and the causes and effects of shifting plant species.
